Obama Questions McCain's honesty but spins lies about him.

On Monday, September 15, 2008, the Obama campaign released a television commercial called Honor  (click below to view) that has aired on some national cable networks and in some battleground states. The commercial questions Republican Presidential candidate US Senator of Arizona John McCain's honor and says his campaign is running a "disgraceful, dishonorable campaign." (1)

On Friday, September 12, 2008, the Obama campaign in a commercial called Still (click below to view) mocked Senator John McCain as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate. An announcer says over chirpy elevator music, that in "1982, John McCain goes to Washington. Things have changed in the last 26 years, but McCain hasn't. He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an e-mail."  (2 )

The problem with this commercial is that it is disingenuous.  A missile struck Sen. McCain's airplane and forced him to eject, knocking him unconscious and breaking both his arms and his leg during his twenty-third mission on October 26, 1967.  He was denied necessary medical treatment and often beaten by the North Vietnamese when he was a prisoner of war at the infamous "Hanoi Hilton. (3) Senator McCain does not like to talk a lot about the details of his wartime experiences like many of his generation — specifically about his lingering physical symptoms. (4) He does not use a computer keyboard because of the injuries he incurred by his captors that tortured him.  (View picture below.) Mr. McCain cannot raise his arms to his shoulders because of the injuries he received from beatings the North Vietnamese gave him that caused broken bones.  He also lacks the dexterity to use his arms and hands to type. As a result, he has his staff do it, since he can not .

Final Thoughts

It is sad as well as tragic that Democrat Presidential candidate US Senator of Illinois Barack Obama — seeking the highest office in the land — would stoop so low to discredit his opponent by chastising and mocking Senator McCain's disability as being computer illiterate and unable to send an e-mail. Such actions must not be tolerated by the American people, and Senator Obama should apologize to Senator McCain and stop airing such commercials.
