FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act (S.223-Senate Amendment 9)

The Senate passed on an 81-17 vote(To view how your senators voted visit: 00008  ) an amendment (S.Amdt. 9 ) to the  FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act (S.223; Full text of legislation ) which repealed the 1099 provision of Obamacare.

Scheduled to go into effect in 2013, the 1099 provision of the health-care law mandated that all companies record and report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) any business-to-business transactions in excess of $600. To boost their claim that Obamacare would reduce the deficit by about $100 billion, Democrats added the provision in order to “recover” an estimated $17.1 billion in “unreported income”

Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 (H.R.1)

Largely along a party-line vote- the House of Representatives on a 235-189 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 147 ) approved the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 (H.R.1; Full text of legislation ).  The $1.2 trillion bill will provide funding for every Cabinet agency through September 30, 2011, when the current budget year ends.  To drive down the deficit, freshman GOP forced the budget to be reduced by $61 billion by reducing funding from hundreds of federal programs.  It also shielded from new burdensome federal regulations coal companies, oil refiners, and farms.

FISA Sunsets Extension Act of 2011 (H.R.514― USA Patriot Act)

A 90-day extension of key provisions of the FISA Sunsets Extension Act of 2011 (H.R.514― USA Patriot Act; Full text of legislation )  counterterrorism surveillance law was passed on Thursday, February 17, 2011, on a 279-143 vote (To view how your representative voted visit: 66) by the House of Representatives. A compromise congressional leaders reached to give lawmakers more time to consider reauthorizing them for a longer period, the legislation would extend the three provisions until May 27, 2011.   After an initial House of Representatives effort to fast-track the extension fell seven votes short of passage in an unanticipated embarrassment for Republican House leaders, the House vote came two days after the Senate approved the short-term extension of the legislation on a bipartisan vote.   And nearly identical to the initial vote in the House, when 277 lawmakers supported the bill and 148 opposed it was the Thursday, February 17, 2011 vote.
